Registered General Nurse – RGN- ITU Nurses

To ensure at all times the highest standards of quality Nursing Care and to assist in identifying and addressing the Health and Social Care of a wide variety of Service Users.

To ensure all Nursing Practices are evidence-based and reflect current trends, working with the Registered Manager and other Trained Nurses in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating Quality Nursing Care.

Supervising and training Care Assistants and ensuring the full and professional delivery of Care to Service Users. To create a secure, caring, and stimulating environment in which Residents are treated with respect and dignity, and are encouraged to reach their full potential.

MUST OPERATE WITHIN THE CODE SET BY THE NMC (NURSING & MIDWIFERY COUNCIL).
  • To provide a high standard of Nursing Care to Service Users, based on the assessment of care needs and in consultation with the Service User, their Relatives and the Care Team.
  • To continuously evaluate the quality of Care given and regularly assess the needs of the Service Users in consultation with the Service User, their Relatives and the Care Team and to effect change required to achieve planned goals.
  • To administer and order drugs.
  • Liaising with GP’s, Chiropodist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and other members of the wider Care Team.
  • Care planning and implementation of Care Plans.
  • To work within the NMC (Professional Body) Codes of Conduct and scope of practice, and the “code” is the bible, and within the Home’s guidelines, Policies and Procedures.
  • To continuously review their own Nursing Practices to develop new skills and knowledge through continuous Professional Development Training that contribute to the enhancement of patient care skills.
  • To work closely with other members of the Care Team, ensuring that effective, high quality Care is given in order to achieve planned goals.
  • When appointed as the Nurse in Charge, take operational control of all aspects of the shift in order to ensure the smooth running of the Home.
  • To ensure the effective and efficient use of all Home’s resources and to keep the Registered Manager informed of any changes in the need of resources.
  • To keep Next of Kin informed of significant changes in Service Users condition.
  • To ensure religious, cultural, emotional and physiological support for Service Users and their families.
  • To attend and participate in relevant Staff Meetings.
  • To be fully conversant with the NMC Codes of Practice
